Privacy Policy
This policy explains what information PianoFlow (“the app”), made by Octave Flow Studios LLC (“we”), collects, why, and the choices you have. PianoFlow is a piano practice app: it shows sheet music, plays it back, and listens to what you play through a USB-MIDI cable or the microphone.
Summary
- We collect your email address and account ID to run your account.
- Microphone audio never leaves your device. Note detection runs entirely on your phone; audio is not recorded, stored or uploaded.
- Your scores, practice history and settings are stored only on your device.
- No advertising, no ad tracking, and we do not sell your data.
- You can delete your account and its data at any time, in the app or on the web.
Information we collect
| What | Why | Where it is kept |
|---|---|---|
| Email address, account ID, sign-in method (email/password or Google) | Create your account and sign you in | Google Firebase Authentication |
| Account record: email, creation date, trial/subscription status | Decide which features and songs your account can use | Google Cloud Firestore |
| Number of songs downloaded per day | Enforce the daily download limit and prevent abuse | Google Cloud Firestore |
| Technical request data (IP address, time, requested song) in server logs | Security, troubleshooting and keeping the service running | Google Cloud logging, kept for a limited period |
If you sign in with Google, Google shares your name, email address and Google account ID with us; we only store the email address and account ID. Passwords are handled by Firebase Authentication and are never visible to us.
Information that stays on your device
- Microphone. When no MIDI keyboard is connected, the app can listen to your piano to detect which notes you play. The audio is analysed on the device in real time and immediately discarded. You can deny the microphone permission and use a USB-MIDI cable instead.
- MIDI input from a connected keyboard is processed on the device only.
- Scores, run history, calibration and settings are stored in the app’s local storage. They are not uploaded and are lost if you uninstall the app or clear its data.
- Downloaded sheet music is cached on the device.
Purchases
If paid subscriptions are offered, purchases made in the Android app are processed by Google Play. We receive a purchase token and the subscription status from Google; we never receive your card or payment details.
Who we share data with
We use Google Firebase and Google Cloud (Google LLC) as our service providers to host accounts and the song library. They process data on our behalf under their own terms and security practices. We do not sell or rent personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers. We may disclose information if required by law.
Security
All traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted (HTTPS). Account data is accessible only through our server, which checks your sign-in on every request.
Retention and deletion
We keep your account data while your account exists. You can delete your account at any time:
- In the app: Settings → Account → Delete account.
- On the web: the account deletion page.
- By email: .
Deleting your account removes your sign-in, your account record and your download counts from our systems right away. Server logs expire on their normal schedule. Records that we are legally required to keep (for example, purchase records) may be kept for as long as the law requires.
Children
PianoFlow is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal information, or to object to its processing. Contact us and we will respond within 30 days.
Changes
If this policy changes we will update the date above, and tell you in the app if the change is significant.
